TVS two-wheelers are manufactured by TVS Motor Company, an Indian multinational company headquartered at Chennai, India. It is the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in India with annual sales of over 3.3 million units in 2022 and the second largest exporter to over 80 countries worldwide. It was founded in 1912 by Thirukkurungudi Vengaram Sundaram. It produces motorcycles, scooters, three wheelers, vehicles and spare parts.

The TVS assembly plant was opened in 2013. It was established geared to boost localization – a key pillar of Kenya’s industrialization strategy. The assembly plant was meant to expand output of TVS bikes due to increasing demand of two wheelers. Currently, output capacity stands at an average of 200 machines per day from 30 initially. The current local content includes foot rests, stands and crash guards and Car & General has a plan of increasing the local content with the long term objective of making complete motorcycles locally.
The assembly starts from a bare frame and ends with a complete bike every two and a half minutes. The bike is then taken for pre-delivery inspection for quality control checks. They are then moved to a delivery yard for trucking to Car & General outlets and dealers. The plant has offered employment opportunities for a good number of people. TVS factory personnel from India visit Kenya regularly to check the operations of the plant and guide further development.
